la sal mountain elopement

this la sal mountain elopement was a wintry, beautiful dream of a day. when i saw the weather forecast i knew it might be a little rainy or snowy up in the mountains, but i wasn’t sure just how much so i headed up there a little early to scope it out. it was absolutely pouring rain in moab, and i couldn’t see the mountains, all signs pointed towards snow!

as you can see by the photos, it was dumping snow all day and night at whispering oaks. i was really stoked because i love shooting in all kinds of weather, and i was hoping syd & jj were excited, too. when i found syd in her room getting ready she was totally glowing. with a huge smile on her face she told me that of course they’d still be having the ceremony outside. YES!

her dad and jj helped sweep the snow off the small deck where their ceremony would be, benches and blankets were brought out, and a gorgeous arbor with flowers from hillside floral in SLC was placed at the edge of the platform. at this point the snow was coming down in huge, beautiful flakes, and it was go time.

the rest of the evening was intimate and casual, just as they had hoped. it’s one of the things i love most about small elopements like these. regardless of how you go about it, everyone is so relaxed because they’re doing exactly what they want to do, not what is expected of them.
