allen hill farm wedding
this allen hill farm wedding was really, really special, because kristina and i actually met in alaska 2 1/2 years ago.
yep. you heard that right. in a hotel lobby in fairbanks, to be precise. see, i sometimes guide hiking and backpacking trips in places like moab (home), death valley, and alaska. kristina was on my very first trip up north, and from our first long drive up the haul road, when we sat near each other and chatted about relationships, crossfit, and getting out of our comfort zones, we became fast friends. i immediately admired her boldness and determination to get out and explore on her own. signing up for a 10 day camping trip, in alaska, with a group of strangers, is no easy feat. but she was in and i am so, so glad our paths crossed!
fast forward to the spring of 2017 when i got a message from kristina asking me if she could fly me out to connecticut to shoot her wedding. um…YES! i’d take any excuse to visit with her again, meet her soon-to-be hubby, and it’s always such an incredible honor to be asked to shoot another photographer’s wedding. i was warmly welcomed into their incredibly giving group of family and friends, spending the days leading up to their big day sharing stories and glasses of wine on their porch, eating really tasty BBQ, and even a fun partner workout at kristina’s crossfit gym. 🙂
i knew the location was going to be beautiful, but i wasn’t prepared for how incredible the barn would be where the reception was set to be held, or the sunset, or the way the night would end. the rain came down hard the morning of their big day. a stressful situation, no doubt, but i never worry about the weather. the staff of allen hill farm and kristina and andy’s wedding planner were wonderful and wise in waiting the storm out. the skies cleared perfectly just as the ceremony was set to begin and everything from then on was flawless. great food, hilarious and loving speeches from close family, and tons of laughter. the party went on into the evening and finished with surprise fireworks off in the distance. i felt so privileged to be there to witness these two share their love for each other in front of their people, and i can only hope it won’t be 2 1/2 years before we all see each other again. thank you, kristina + andy, for everything.
p.s. yes i do travel for weddings. message me with what you have in mind, travel fees are often waived if it’s a location on my dream list!
