sen + meesha

dead horse point engagements

I about fell over when I met Meesha and Sen at Dead Horse Point State Park for their engagement photos this fall. He had told me they would be wearing traditional Indian attire, but there was nothing I could do to prepare for the gorgeous colors, flowing fabrics, and intricate details of their clothing set against the red rocks of my home. I can’t remember at the moment, but knowing me I likely let out a little squeal when I saw the two of them step out of their car.

As we started our short walk along the trail to our cliffside location, we quickly realized that we had some mutual friends in the Salt Lake City area, and from then on it felt like we were good friends. We chatted about the differences between traditional Indian weddings (they’re huge) and American weddings, and how there really isn’t one right way to do anything anymore.

Given that it was early November, it was pretty chilly up at Dead Horse Point. I had at least four layers on (my typical late fall shooting get up), and Meesha was basically wearing nothing but silk. Somehow she still looked absolutely stunning, and didn’t complain once! I must’ve asked her 73 times if she was doing okay and she just responded with a smile that this was nothing compared to where she lived in Canada. I grew up in southern California soooo anything below 71 feels pretty dang chilly to me, though I have gotten better over the years. 🙂

A quick moment of honesty here: I was pretty burnt out by the end of this season. I had shot over 25 weddings and elopements and 20+ adventure sessions and couples sessions, with a few random shoots sprinkled in. I was feeling creatively fatigued, exhausted, and overall, well, tired. But you know what happens without fail every single time I get out of my car to meet a couple for a shoot? I get this crazy burst of energy, my face lights up, and I get SO excited to meet whoever it is I’m lucky enough to hang with for a few hours. That’s how I know I’m doing what I love.

This winter is all about self-care for me. More sleep, more tea, more meditating, more skiing, more time with my guy and my pups, more reflection and refocusing on what my goals are for 2019; while also being so crazy grateful for people like Sen and Meesha who remind me why I love what I do. Enjoy the beautiful magic of these two below!
