it's not hard to see why these might be some of my favorite wedding photos EVER! weather can be a big concern on wedding days, and i completely get it - you do all of this planning for one day and really the only thing out of your control is what mother nature has in store for you. when we arrived up at the island in the sky district of canyonlands national park we could see a few clouds gathering off in the distance and a bit of a breeze was blowing, but nothing too threatening...
after the ceremony the clouds darkened, but stayed a safe distance away. then came the lightning, then the rainbow (!), and all the while it was a calm and beautiful 70 degrees on the cliff edge where these two were married. i loved that they brought a few items that were special to them, and that they picked up a gluten free cupcake from crystal's cakes & cones and shared it as the sun was dipping below the horizon.
i always have such a difficult time wrapping up a shoot in the evening because i love capturing the light as it fades away, going from that orange glow to the magic blue hour, and just as i was thinking we were about finished, the rain started to sprinkle and we called it a (perfect) night.
cheers to doug and shannon - here's to a lifetime of even more adventures together!
